Fairness

1. Think of a time when you've taken unfair advantage of a person or a situation, or when someone has taken unfair advantage of you. Describe it. What was unfair about it? How did it make you feel? What did you learn from the experience?

2. How is fairness related to having respect for others? How is it related to honesty? To being reliable? To being a good citizen?

When I was little and still went to a sitter, I was used as a footstool. Two older girls, in their teens or young adults, came to the sitter's house. They came to visit, and then they went to the living room to watch TV with me and the other kids. I sat in front of the couch on the floor. Then the two girls put their feet on my shoulder. I tried to move away but they pushed their legs down. I asked them to stop but they wouldn't. When my parent go to the sitter's house I was free from being a foot stool. I learned that people in this world could use people like they are superior.

Fairness is good to have. Fairness shows that you are on the same level of the other person and that you do not act like someone higher up. Honesty allows people to trust you and not have second guesses about what you say. Showing fairness to everyone is a good thing to do. In showing fairness to others in society, you are kind and help others. You treat everyone equally and help others. When people treat people fair and equal in life, there might be less violence and the world might be a better place.
